Location: Queen Mary University of London, Bancroft Building, Mile End Road, London, UK
Fee: The event is free to attend for those coming to play board games, or, for a small fee, you can bring your own game to playtest and book a playtesting slot (90 minutes each).
Tom Lehmann grew up overseas, where he didn’t have many games, so he began inventing his own. Since 1992, Tom has designed over 60 published games and expansions, including Race for the Galaxy, Res Arcana, 1846, and – with Matt Leacock – 3 Pandemic expansions. With a background in economics, programming, and technical writing, several of Tom’s card games leverage the concept of opportunity cost by giving players an alternative use for their cards.

Testing is a vital part of game development, but it’s more than simply preparing a design for publication. By identifying extensible elements, game strategies, and items that don’t belong in a base game, testing can serve as a springboard for both further development and potential expansions. In this talk, Tom Lehmann will give an overview of game testing before delving into these areas
